Since the safety hazards in old urban residential areas are quite prominent in China, these persistent problems need to be addressed in the current renovation of old urban residential communities, which also have crucial impacts on the effectiveness of the renovation. This article categorizes common safety hazards in the renovation of old urban residential communities into six types: building safety, pipeline safety, environmental safety, fire safety, emergency avoidance, and biosafety hazards. It proposes remediation strategies from the aspects of hazard investigation, classification remediation, technical application, financial support, and long-term management, in order to provide reference for the entire process of safety hazard remediation in old urban residential communities in China.
